Job Summary

The Pursuit Engineer is a key member of GSI’s client management team, responsible for identifying, developing, and converting new project opportunities in the geohazard mitigation market. This role blends technical expertise with business development strategy, focusing on relationship-building, lead generation, and consultative selling. The ideal candidate is a technically savvy, client-focused professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about delivering tailored geotechnical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue geohazard mitigation opportunities with new and existing clients across assigned regions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, particularly in the geotechnical and mining sectors.
  • Serve as a technical expert and problem solver, supporting clients with site-specific, innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, estimating, operations) to develop and present customized project proposals.
  • Conduct client meetings and field visits to gather project data, assess risks, and scope work.
  • Develop and execute account plans to achieve growth goals and support long-term client retention.
  • Provide accurate and timely forecasting, reporting, and pipeline updates to leadership.
  • Monitor market trends and competitive activity to adjust strategy and uncover new opportunities.
  • Lead pricing discussions, contract negotiations, and proposal preparation for both public and private sector clients.
  • Ensure prompt and professional responses to client inquiries and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in a B2B consultative sales, project pursuit, or technical business development role.
  • Prior experience in geotechnical engineering, construction, mining, or geohazard mitigation industries strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in public sector bidding/tendering and private sector deal-making.
  • Proven experience in project estimating and proposal development; experience with B2W estimating software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment and construction practices.
  • Experience with CRM tools such as Salesforce or Zendesk preferred.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work in a remote capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the geohazard mitigation, geotechnical, or mining industries.
  • Familiarity with B2W estimating software or similar industry-specific tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of geohazard risk assessment, mitigation techniques, and engineering solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects and large-scale accounts in a competitive marketplace.
  • Strong network within the geotechnical and mining sectors, including key decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Experience working with or within remote and challenging field environments.
  • Certifications or training in sales methodology (e.g., SPIN Selling, Challenger Sale) or project management (e.g., PMP).

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, and use hands and fingers to operate computers, telephones, printers and keyboards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be able to use vision to read documents and use computer screens.
  • Work is typically conducted in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels due to office activities and interactions.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally.

This role will be remote in the United States, preferably in AZ, UT or NV.


The expected annual base salary range for this position in the AZ, UT, and NV areas is $105,000.00 - $120,000.00. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential bonus or benefits.
